Fort Campbell Soldier Killed Near Kandahar

A 101st Airborne Division soldier died Wednesday in Afghanistan.

23-year-old Brandon M. King of Tallahassee, Florida joined the Army in September and arrived at Fort Campbell in April.

A release from the post said King was a field artillery automated data system specialist. He died after an attack at Combat Outpost Nolan near Kandahar province.

He’s survived by his parents in Tallahassee.

Two promoted posthumously

Also, two other 101st Airborne soldiers killed in Afghanistan this week have been posthumously promoted. Shaun Mittler of Austin was elevated to staff sergeant. He died when his unit was attacked with a rocket propelled grenade. Nathaniel Garvin of Radcliff, Kentucky, died in a non-combat related incident. He has been promoted to specialist.
