Country Music Marathon

The County Music Marathon will hit the streets again next year as organizers continue to look for a title sponsor for the event.

This year, in the most successful year to date, more than 22,000 participants registered for the half marathon and marathon.

Event manger Adam Zocks says they expect even more participants in 2007, especially kids.

“The first year we added the kid’s marathon to this event, which was 5 years ago, we had 36 kids. We threw it in at the last minute and said oh well let’s give it a shot, see if we can do this and we loved it, the community loved the concept, so we kept growing it each year. We’ve pretty much gotten to a point where we can’t grow it on it’s current plan on Saturday morning, just too much traffic, logistically it’s getting too difficult.”

So the Kids’s marathon will now move to Friday evening next year. Three thousand kids are expected.

Zocks is hoping for more than 25-thousand runners next year and is pushing for more participants to run the 26-point-2 mile marathon. The largest category is the half marathon.

Zock says the marathon is also aggressively looking for a title sponsor. The event has lacked a lead sponsor since its inception in 1999.
